How this calculator works

  • Gain per trade = sale value − cost of acquisition. Exchange fees, internet, advisory costs and other expenses can't be deducted.
  • Each trade stands alone. A loss on one coin can't be set off against a gain on another.
  • Swaps count. Exchanging one crypto for another is a transfer, so enter it as a sale at the market value received.
  • Rates: 30% tax plus 4% cess (31.2% in total). These rates are unchanged in Budget 2026.

Frequently asked questions

How is crypto tax calculated in India?

For each sale or swap, subtract what you paid from what you received. Add up the gains, take 30% of the total, then add 4% cess. Losses are ignored. Subtract any TDS already deducted to see what you still owe.

Are exchange fees deductible from crypto gains?

No. Only the cost of acquisition can be deducted. Exchange fees, software, internet and advisory costs cannot.

Does this calculator include surcharge?

No. Surcharge applies only when your total income is above ₹50 lakh, so most people don't pay it. If you do, add it on top or ask a CA.

What happens to the 1% TDS already deducted?

It is credited against your final crypto tax. If the TDS is more than the tax you owe, you can claim the difference as a refund when you file your ITR.

Is the data I enter saved anywhere?

No. The calculator runs entirely in your browser. Your figures are not sent to us or stored.

This is an estimate for planning. Your final figures depend on your full return. If you have business income, large volumes or foreign exchange accounts, file with a CA. Find CA-assisted crypto ITR filing (affiliate link).
